Re: Cloud of smoke upon ignition
yes it was only purchased sept 08, I called trading standards but they said only if thecar has a defect can you get a case. If it's due to age, wear and tear there's not a lot they can do.. I'm going to ring round and ask for quotes but even if it's 500 less than that it's going to need a loan or be...

Re: Cloud of smoke upon ignition
Took it to the garage yesterday and bam, turbo failure! Price to fix it, £1700 + VAT. He said 10 hours labour, 550 for the turbo, then an intercooler and cambelt needs doing to as hasnt been done yet! And that's if it doesnt need a new manifold and EGR valve. gutted. I havent got anyway near that am...

Re: Cloud of smoke upon ignition
Yep, the engine starts running on its own oil as fuel . Could this be happening already which is why I'm using so much? Not sure if i've posted about this before, but in the oil filler and on the top of the dipstick aswell theres a very small amount of white goo. In a petrol engine this would make ...

Re: Cloud of smoke upon ignition
Don't worry I didn't take it as anything but helpful. The revving you mentioned, is that what happens when the turbo goes?

Re: Cloud of smoke upon ignition
Its booked in at my local Bosch diesel specialist for sat morning for a diagnosis, shes got to use it for the rest of the week for work... Been looking over that parkers forum a bit more and saw they were recommended garages, also a lot closer to home than the Renault garage. Shall let you all know ...

Re: Cloud of smoke upon ignition
Thanks for the replies I appreciate this.. Oil light has come on probably twice in the last month to 6 weeks. No corrolation between oil light and flat spots I dont think, saying that though I've been prompt on topping it up so not really driven with the light on much. Smoke appears just about every...

Re: Cloud of smoke upon ignition
Well hopefully the oil was only changed about 1000 miles ago. When I bought it the dealer said it would be serviced for me, the service indicator was reset but doesnt mean to say it all done. Obviously I cant say what oil was used as I wasnt there, but when I've been topping it up I've been using th...

Re: Cloud of smoke upon ignition
Yeah I thought it was a bit excessive on the oil consumption but then I heard these did use more than others so didn't think really.. Which details do you want for the engine? It's on 59k last service receipt was for 30somethingk and then the garage I bought it off "serviced it". I may get...

Re: Cloud of smoke upon ignition
Oh dear
So when it's saying top up oil level, should I ignore it? I'll check the dipstick in a bit.
Yeah u remember rightly. No idea what the cause was, still does it. Flat spot in 1st is terrible..

Re: Fuel problem... Strange one.
Yeah i'd agree keep driving and it'll figure it out. My van does this all the time, if I fill it up from almost empty to full the needle stays in the same position on nearly empty. Then when driving it slowly creeps back up, sometimes it takes ages sometimes minutes. I'd maybe check it out though if...

Cloud of smoke upon ignition
Hi As the title says really, when I start her up quite a big cloud of smoke bellows out. It's not black smoke, but it doesn't seem blue either as if too much oil is in. On that note it does it when the oil service light has been on before. Only thing that I have done differently in the last month is...

Wheel removal
Hi This is gonna be the most basic of questions, but I just got a puncture and got all my kit out but the qheelbrace thing is missing! typical! Got the jack, a bit of plastic and a threaded towing piece... But nothing to get the bloody wheel off! And looks as though theres a locking nut too. Are the...

Rear screen wash pump
Hi
Having issues with my rear screen wash, when you activate it on the stalk the wiper blade goes as normal but no water comes out. The front works fine still. Is there a way of checking the pump or any ideas on how to fix it?
Cheers
