If the gas is low/empty the compressor won't kick in. Take it to kwik-fit as if there is a leak they don't charge you, so you will find out if it just needs charging or if it's goosed !

I have the same on my 04 1.5 Dci , it always starts but on cold days the revs hunt from 700-900 rpm and when driving for the 1st 5 mins it's stuttery and if in limp mode, also makes a tappety noise when under pedal. After that it's tickety boo.

Just phone them and ask the parts department, I always find them friendly and helpful. I use Mackie Motors in Brechin Scotland. Try them !

Had the same on an A3 , RAC diagnosed thermostat as it was overheating with same symptoms of 1 hose hot and 1 cold and no heating. That was changed but it wouldn't bleed, head was removed to reveal a tiny Nick in the head gasket. That sorted the issue.

Yeah tried that already, had a motor with a dicky dpf so that needed doing regular. It only seems to be an issue on the first start of the day and for the 1st mile or so ? The chuggy idle is there pretty much constant but that doesn't bother me.

So starts her up this morning , doing the 750-1000 rpm hunting idle , driving ok then in 2nd the tappty noise starts and seems linked to throttle input. No rise in speed but nouse increases as peddle applied. Then as if something clearing the noise goes and power increases ?

Was alright yesterday from cold no issues ! Oil level and everything is spot on (was serviced in Jan , Oil/Filter, g-box oil topped up). Could this be the start of injector issues or would the injection fault appear ? What would cause the metallic tappiting noise with associated limp mode ?

So starting from cold again today same jerky sluggish driving initially followed by the tappity noise and no drive above 30 mph. After about 1/2 mile all clears and drives as per. Seems only an issue on 1st start of the day ?

So , same again today but when driving very hesitant , wouldn't go over 30 then this horrible metal tappity sound. No warning lights etc. Only fault code is the usual glow plug relay circuit one. Feels sluggish and like it's going to stall !

My Laguna mkiii had an issue with the bonnet catch so I disconnected as I didn't think anyone would break into the bonnet !! On my Mrs old A3 they were prone to the battery's in the horn unit leaking and then it would go off as and when it wanted. Not sure if the Megane is the same set up.

So , swapping looms back and the rear window is the same , you can hear it trying but not moving. On disassembly one of the microswitch housings found missing !! Coincidence that it stopped working today.
