Disconnect the battery before you do it or you could lose a finger, the throttle opens every few minutes I believe when key in. After cleaning simply start the car and let it idle it will relearn.Don't rev it. It may be a bit rough for the first 40 mile or so. Don't forget your radio code will need ...

I don't suppose you can stick s scope on it to measure current flow and check the waveform for variations in draw?

If you are going to do it at least put a variable resistor inline. A potentiometer will also give you motor control.

If you can afford it do the whole timing belt, pulleys,water pump, dephaser pulley, aux belt while your at it.
At 86k its due anyway. Might cost you £500 with labour though.
