106 bhp 1.5 dci real World mpg

Postby Gazwould » Sat Apr 28, 2012 7:37 am

According to Auto Traders website combined is 60.1 mpg, we all know these claims by the manufacturer are exaggerated as they attained them in a lab !

Whats your trip computer reading ?

To reduce roll in the corners rather than lower uprated springs can stelthy ARBs be borrowed from the 225 ?

To answer your question, my trip is showing 59mpg currently after a long dark winter in the North (my daily commute is only 10 miles over hilly A roads and through two town centres, I've had 63 mpg over a weeks touring holiday in Scotland). I've got the 5 speed 86 bhp so yes, 60mpg + is more than achievable in a 6 speed 106bhp.

Read the thread below if you've got a spare hour or so, but some claims do seem a little outlandish so take with a pinch of salt. ;)

I have a 1.9 DCi (130 BHP) in a Megane CC.

Did my first long journey last week (Glasgow to Derby & bacK) so was interested to see how the car would perform.

Brimmed it before I left and covered just over 600 mile on one tank with a 109 mile range still showing. Checked the consumption when I filled again and the car had done 57.9 MPG so well pleased.

Only had the car 2 weeks so will be interesting to see how it performs over my ownership.

I considered a 106 BHP 1.5 but was happier with the 1.9 I found which was in better condition and lower mileage.

Ok, more info, before the recent remap it was doing 48mpg in Winter and 52 in Summer possibly owing to faster warm up times and increased tyre pressures.

The most ever seen was 60mpg on a motorway trip up to Sheffield when the car was newly acquired 2 years ago.

Since the remap there seems to be no mpg improvement but increased drivability and power /torque.

I'm thinking small boost leak/ something needs cleaning out ?

Any info on reducing body roll without springs using 225 arbs ?

My Megane 1.5dci 106 does about 50mpg normally with normal driving, but it has gone as high as 55mpg.

You always have lower mpg in winter heater, lights, wipers, heated screen, longer warm up times people tend to drive slower in winter because of weather so you end up changing gear more etc.
My 1.9dci 120 use to get 60mpg on a summer run and about 49 in winter, age, mileage and remap now get between 54 / 56 mpg but on a standard 1.9 engine I got best mpg at 75/80 mph @ 60 mph it was not that good

I like to check my mpg on every car I own...My last car before this 1.5dci was a Rover 75...The 1951cc BMW diesel was very economic for me...I once got 60mpg on a Scotland/Scottish Highlands trip of over 1400 miles...and regularly returned over 50mpg on a weekly run about basis.. On the Rover you could actually alter the algorithm that was used to work out the mpg your display was showing....If for instance your actuall mpg(brim to brim) was 66mpg....but the on board display was only showing 60mpg....you could alter the algorithm up 10% so that the on board display actually showed this 66mpg....which would then make all on board readings correct...I studied this for 2 years...and there was a lot of talk about algorithms.

Ive asked on another thread on here if anyone knows how to get to this algorithm on the Megane...but so far not had an answer.
I've only had my Megane 2 for 3 weeks and so far, on short journeys its reading about 57mpg...but brim to brim it only works out at around 54mpg....I'm happy with either of these for winter short trips.... especially as have yet to sort out supposed glow plug and booster faults showing.

Hi,

I have a 1.5dci 106hp. (with 100k+ on the clock)

It generally returns around the 58mpg mark, for day to day driving.
Although it can drop to 55mpg when doing a lot of short run/town driving.
