to buy or not to buy

Postby marc73 » Tue Apr 28, 2015 12:16 pm

I have found and agreed a price on a 07 megane 1.5dci (86/£30 tax) but neither sunroof or passenger windows work. Dealer says they will be fixed before I collect. Would you walk away or look at it that these are common faults and will happen sooner or later so getting them fixed now could be a positive!.

I want this car because of colour/sunroof/tax combination and it's the facelift, but am I being blinded!!

I have found the same spec except it's pre-facelift and a 106bhp (£100/tax), £400 pound cheaper but with the higher tax it may be a false economy, and it's pre-facelift and I believe are more prone to problems (please correct me if this is wrong)

Thanks in advance, Marc

if you do buy it I would ask for at least 3 months unlimited warranty that will give you time to find anything wrong hope this helps and good luck

Two common faults, but at least you know they will be fixed.

Marc,

I bought my car about a month ago with 3 month warranty, it had an intermitant problem with the window, mine being a late 08 it had Megane 3 wiring so it was a dodgy switch not the usual regulator, either way an easy fix and FOC with the warranty.
My sunroof is fine except for a slight squeak as it reached half way open but looking on the forum failing bushes are fairly common causing the roof to drop and not clear the rear glass section. Expensive repair with OE parts but reasonably priced after market spares are available if it dies again under your ownership.

If the price is right and those are the only issues I'd be happy to complete the sale, use the current issues as a way to wangle some warranty then play with every switch and gadget as much as possible while you're not paying for repairs :D

Chaps, thanks for the replies. The car will come with a 3 month warranty and I have specified that it will definitely cover the windows and sunroof, only problem is that the garage is an hour and a half away!!. I have done a little research around the sunroof and windows, so when I get the car I want to apply some silicone grease to the sunroof runners.

Just a quick update, I bought the car and love it!! (especially colour (nightfire red) and sunroof).

The arms on the sunroof mechanism were replaced aswell as a new regulator fitted to passenger window.

I got 69.8MPG on 75mile trip back from dealers which is pleasing, but now want to replaced disc's and pads ( any recommendations??), also when should the cambelt be replaced?, the dealer have offered to do it at trade price (£200), but it's far too far away for that, so what would you expect to pay?

Cheers, Marc

I believe the cam belt is 60,000 or 7 years, whichever comes first.

Wouldn't expect to pay more than £250 for a full cambelt kit plus waterpump etc as thats what my old 2.2 406 cost at my local french car specialists.

If you're in need of a giggle ask your local Renault dealer for a quote :D
