vibration in the steering wheel in moving the Megane II

Postby LostLover » Wed May 24, 2017 7:06 am

Hi,

I have a Renault Megane II Classic 2.0i 16V Automatic.
My car has started to get very high vibration in the steering wheel recently.
The vibration only comes when the car is moving, specially at low speeds.
However, when the car is not moving there is no vibration on the steering wheel,
unless when turn on the AC, There will be vibration on the steering wheel,
and the vibrations get worse in moving the car with turn on the AC too.

Has anybody else had a similar problem? :conf
I have already shown it to a couple of mechanics but they are unable to find the root cause.

Thanks!

Just a thought but does the engine vibrate excessively when the AC is on, As the engine has to work harder when it is on so might be causing vibration, normally a vibration when moving is caused by bad tyres being off balance try looking to see if you have lost a weight of a front wheel....sorry cannot think of anything else

Dear scooper1000,

I have balance tyres before but there is not any change.
Another friend advised me to check and replace top right engine mount,
But after change of that there is not any change about Vibrating of steering wheel too.
Other friend advised to me to Check fan/aux belt tensioner, also bottom crankshaft pulley, while the engine is running.
But I don't know how to check them and is it related to Vibrating or not.
What do you think?

Thanks for your helping.

Hi there,
while the engine is running, try using a longish metal tube or straight crow bar, touch on the alternator and a/c pump and put to ear, see if there's a loud noise from a bearing. lf possible, touch it on the steering column and see if the noise seems to match what you hear.
As l understand, you've got vibration while standing still so when vibration is present, take the aux belt off and see if it's still there. Obviously, if it's gone, you'll know it's something on the belt. At least you can eliminate it.
Good luck
Bob.
