Failed coil pack

Postby loz » Tue May 04, 2010 12:48 pm

Had my Renault Megane since Saturday and had a number of things come up today:

1) Fume filter warning light is constantly on.
2) My rear left wheel is constantly squeaking.
3) I have lost a lot of acceleration power.
4) Every time I turn the car on it stays on for 4-6 seconds and then turns itself off unless I start revving the engine and do that for a 10 seconds or so.

I know fume filter warning is a common fault and a few of the above items could be linked to that, just a bit disappointed that a car with this mileage could have this much wrong with it.

you need to get the codes read to determine exactly which component is faulty (AA / RAC will do this if your a member), could be coils or one of the many sensors ?
A squeaky brake could be a wheel bearing or sticking caliper, should be able to jack the wheel up and turn it by hand, should give you a clue as to whether something has siezed.
for stalling issue on 1.4 you need to access and clean the throttle body.

Luckily as I only brought it 3 days ago it's being sent to Renault to have the problems fixed, I'm just hoping it doesn't happen again soon!

Thanks for the advice Markren2004 - will keep it in mind.
