No, it self-adjusts.

So are they always quite high? I know my ex's clio was quite high, I dont think the clutch is on the way out as the bits still quite strong and seems fine, just cant get used to it.... coming from jap cars the clutch is very low...

Alex is, of course, correct. Put your foot down in 5th on an incline and observe that the revs rise in direct proportion to the speed. If the clutch is worn it will slip (the engine will speed up but the car will not). On my 1.5dci the bite is somewhere in the middle, but my father's Avensis is almost binary in operation - an inch of movement at the very top delineates engaged/disengaged.

Red 03 plate 5dr 1.9 Dynamique dci120
Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

The hydraulic system self-adjusts not to the biting point, but to the point where the thrust bearing comes to the contact with the pressure plate release levers. In many cars this takes place within one or two centimetres of the pedal travel. Then comes the stage of moving the pressure plate. In some cars this stage is long, hence you cross the biting point late. In Megane this stage is short, like in a sports car, hence the biting point is perceived as high.
This is the theory. In practice, the clutch disc can be deformed or air present in the hydraulic system. This may make the clutch spongy, and the biting point will be lower - like in some German and all American cars. I, personally, like the clutches with a "sharp" feel.
As Dave says, testing the clutch is simple. Check the free travel of the pedal before it starts slightly vibrate - this should be 1-2cm. Then check it for slipping as Dave described, or just remember if the wheel spin happens regularly when exiting a bend.
