Are you sure your not looking at your Air Con unit?

Not sure if you are aware, many aftermarket fuel filters tend to leak at the pipe connections causing air in the fuel line. This is quite a common thing and can be solved by using a genuine renault filter.

When i changed mine on my 1.9dci i just bought the diesel filter element for a tenner and took the one out of car opened it cleaned it and changed element instead of buying whole new plastic casing.
