1.5dci gear shifter excessive play left and right

Hi all,

I have this issue with my megane 1.5dci 3 doors and i hope someone could help me.


Maybe this has been discussed previously here but i cannot find anything related to my particular issue.
As the subject says: i have excessive play in my gearshift but only left and right in any gear or neutral. The play is circa 2cm in each way.
I am worried that this will worn out prematurely the gearbox synchromesh as it happen to the previous one gearbox. The new gearbox has only 30k miles therefore I know that play is not coming from gear selector.

Does anyone have any clue if the linkages (especially the one moving the up/down lever of the gearbox selector) can be adjusted in order to stop this movement?
Is anyone aware of a gearshifter repairing kit as during my research i found that in the case of old gearboxes that used rods rather than cables you can acquire a repairing kit to replace all the bushings and joints inside the shifter casing.
If I would by a complete gear shifter together with linkages off ebay, how would i be able to check if the body of the shifter doesn't have the same left/right play as the one currently on my car?
Does a 5 gear shifter & linkages from a petrol megane will fit on a diesel?

Note:
1. when i bought the car the when engaging 2nd gear will always make noise. Mechanic said is because off gone synchro and recommended a replacement of whole gearbox. Job done. Gearbox jr5 102.
2. on old gearbox the knob had play in all 4 directions
3. with new gearbox is only left and right play

Hi,
l've bought a mechanism and cables off ebay for my megane 6 speed.
Haven't done it yet but very good mechanism. (100% ebayer)
lf you don't trust ebay, although it's money back on paypal, go to a breakers where you can try it before they take it out.
You can check it's a 5 speed like yours.

Thanks for the tips. I will give it a try.
Do I need to take down the middle section of the exhaust and heat shield in order to get the whole assembly down?

I believe this works cannot be done from the inside of the car.

that is correct, you have to take out the "box" out and dissemble it.

I have done what Milos recommended and he was right.
So if you have massive play in the gear stick (left-right) lever most probably the bushing came off.

I've went trough some pain to take all exhaust and heat shields off and after that with the lever down i found out an easier fix for future that can save some else time and money.

You can undertake with a soldering iron an opening from inside the car just opposite the problematic bushing and push in back in place. Please see picture attached. I've done the opening with the assembly down just to see that there is enough space for the opening to be done.
