rear caliper wind back

Postby Phil and Liz » Sun Jun 04, 2017 8:33 pm

Today had to fit new rear pads to my 2008, normally rear brakes are dealt with at time of disc change by my local garage and last time they said my o/s/r caliper was seized and could not be wound back. Cue bill of £500 for discs pads mot and a couple of ball joints. That was because I didnt fancy fitting the rear discs and winding the pistons back in, also was attending a wedding that day so did not have the time. Mot advised that rear pads low so bought a wind back tool, £10 ebay and a set of pads. O/S/R caliper wound back easily, N/S/R would not wind in, even using air impact gun. Got a pair of mole grips and a large rubber mallet,a few good hits and it was soon moving. Moral of the story, your local garage ( also read kwik fit etc) are only interested in fitting new parts, doesnt wind in ? fit a new caliper. Five minutes is all it took.
