knocking

Postby joe67 » Sun Jun 11, 2017 8:35 pm

have a 1.4 , 2004 megane..

theres a loud knocking comming from the o/s/f when turning steering, braking, and stoping then changing direction foward/stop/reverse. there is no 6-12 movement in the wheel, not feeling anything in the spring or top mount when having someone turn wheel. there was an advisory for the inner tie rod, so replaced that. the 9-3 play in the wheel has gone but it still doesnt feel right when hands on the arm and steering is moved. there is also alittle clicking comming from the rack..

i dont think its the balljoint, thought maybe the wishbone bushes as it feel like its comming from floor at times. but the clicking and the notcy feeling from the rack has me fearing its that. any helps appreciated

edit:

easist way to recreate the noise now is to drive and rock the steering side to side sharp, and it makes a loud noise everytime. ill add a video , hope it gives a better idea.

camera was on floor, but you can hear the knocking , starts about 0.23

Hi,
the only time l heard something like this before was the rack was actually loose.
l presume you've checked that, otherwise check if there's a universal joint loose on the column.
Sorry can't be more help.
Bob.
