1.9Dci Floppy Gearstick Left-Right

Hi guys, got a 1.9dci with loads of left-right play on the gearstick even when in gear. It's still tight up and down

Also having issues getting between 4th / 5th when the cars warm as though the selector is sticking

Anyone know if it's more likely to be a linkage cable or the gearstick or selector on the gearbox? Or all of the above lol

Hi,
There are one or two posts similar if you have a dig around.
lt's usually the selector box the gearstick sits in.
You may possibly do yours from inside the car if you're lucky, take a look.
l've got the same trouble but mine's too far gone, so bought a complete used but good linkage with gearstick and cables off ebay ( £40 )
To change the lot, lt's an exhaust off job and done from underneath,
haven't fitted yet as its not a 5 min job, but will do soon.

Hi Bob, thanks for the advice

I had it apart over the weekend and dismantled a bit of everything so took the opportunity to change the unit, the old one had snapped on of the plastic bushes inside the selector so was flopping everywhere and making gear changes difficult.

I got a second hand unit with cables and fitted it tonight which appears to have resolved the issue.

It's not too bad to do, need to disconnect the cables from the gearbox, split the exhaust at the cat, undo the nuts on the heat shield and you'll see the bottom of the unit. Inside take out the centre console and eel back the foam under the carpet and you'll find 4 13mm bolts holding it in.

Easy but time consuming, glad I've got everything apart anyway
