Postby Stemoz439 » Wed Oct 11, 2017 12:07 pm

Hi can anybody help I've just brought a Renault Megan Monaco 2006 apparently it's some kind of special edition? it's done 84000 miles it's got full service history but 5 owners and I don't no if the cambelt has been changed so I've called the renault garage and Halfords and there quoting me £516 and £546 is this the going rate these days for a cambelt change ? Thanks Stephen

Hi,
that's about the limit anyone could charge. lt pays to shop around.
At 84k you've no reason to panic unless there's an oil leak in that region.
Ask around and everyone you know to find a small independant friendly garage, even your local mot station might be good or may recommend somewhere.
Bob.

My local garage charged £215 which included new pulleys and obviously the belt...reasonable amount I think..my car was not high mileage but I was told every 5 years regardless of mileage it should be changed...peace of mind priceless
