Intermittent screen wiper facility not working - the likely reason.

Hopefully this will help somebody else. 2003 1.5 dci but will be the same for all models of this era (don't know about later models). Wipers work perfectly at slow speed, high speed and single wipe but do not work using the intermittent facility. I found this to be caused by a problem with the UCP (switching and protection unit). I replaced the UCP and the problem was solved. Nothing to do with any fuses or the motor, switches or wiring. In fact this is the second time in a year that i have replaced the UCP because of this. The UCP contains several relays and I suspect that it is one of these that is faulty. Removing them and checking them is a possibility but no wiring diagram is available and I have not bothered as UCPs are so cheap and easy to obtain from your local scrappy. On a visit yesterday I was appalled at the number of Meg 2 in the yard, most of them better than mine - they simply do not go! Replacing the UCP is simple and I have done it so many times I can do it in minutes. Ne need to disconnect the battery. After removing the "live" 13mm securing bolt there is no risk of shorting the wire if careful (or if nervous, wrap tape around it). Do not drop the UCP! It does not need to be coded to the car. Later models (or so I believe) are not so easy.

Also called the interior multiplex module, it's under the facia on passenger side, remove glovebox.
Looks like a flat black box with multi connections.
Check it out on you tube.
Bob.

Yes that's it.
Maybe if you google 'megane interior module location' you might get better pictures.
lt might be wise to check with Renault that your module is not coded to the car. lf it is, post back if you can't find a good repairer.
Remember that most of these in a scrapyard may well be worse than yours, so you need to know it is good, it controls everything on the body.
Good luck
Bob.
