injection fault on display?????

Postby monkeymanonk » Sun Dec 16, 2007 9:30 pm

my megane 1.9dci 03 keeps displaying injection fault with the service light on,it imediatly cuts out the engine but then starts again with no problems and no lights or faults on.I went to my local renault dealer who i advised that i had read that the fault could relate to glow plugs. He put the car on diagnostics and said this was not the fault as the plugs seem ok,he said it could be the fuel regulator or the the fuel sensor or the fuel pump or the crankshaft sensor???????all these parts are very expensive so is he taking the pish or what????Please help as renault cant without shafting me!!!!!!

its usually the plugs but can be a few things like that say. the plugs unfortunately are the cheapest fix, a lot of people have changed them with the message going away after. maybe take it somewhere else for a second opinion.

i have the same check ignition message, car still runs fine though but i'm gonna change the plugs and see if that gets rid of the message

just out of interest if you start it and the light comes on, leave it for a couple of minutes, stop it and restart. if the light doesnt come on then i'd hazard a guess at it being the plugs as they aren't really needed when the engine is warm so the light shouldnt come on

does your injection fault light stay on and does it cut the engine?

my light stays on unless, like i say, i leave the engine running for a while, stop it and restart. the light doesnt come on then so in my case its prob the plugs. it doesnt kill the engine though :?

yeah, that wont be the plugs, you'd only get the message then when you were first starting the engine from cold.
did they give you costs for the other bits?

its the plus labour bit thats the killer.

i take it you had no warranty with the car? i dont think it'd be the crankshaft sensor but i'm no mechanic. whatever it is, its a shitter!

Read the workshop manual pointed at in my message in the Links section (2n link). You'll see that the same symptom can be caused by a variety of things. Then find a garage or someone with an OBD reader to read the fault codes from ECU. Bosch garages are usually good.

Good morning and welcome from all of us! What you are describing is a typical symptom of failed glow-plug. They are not used if the engine is hot. Replace all four -- it is cheaper than paying for the diagnostics to stealers. Then, the others usually fail soon after the first one. OEM glow plugs for 1.9DCi 120bhp are Beru GN 018, 0 100 226 373, GSF part No R18822, which I bought at £7 each from GSF. You can order them by phone.

Good luck.
