Injection Fault & STOP 1.5 DCI

Postby James » Fri Mar 07, 2008 12:11 pm

The other week i was driving to work and the "Injection Fault" and STOP showed up on the dash. It went off after a few seconds and didnt come on again untill today.

Again on the way to work on the motorway again doing about 80 and it came on about 5 times. Again when i released the throttle it went off!!
When i started to accelerate back up to 80 and it would come on again.
This only happend for the first half of my journey (all motorway) and stopped as i was about to turn round and take to a garage.

Anyone any ideas? Just worried this is gonna cost me a fortune :(

My megane is doing the same thing at the moment. My mate is putting it on the machine tomorrow, i will let u know the result.
I hope is nothing major. Hopefully a dodgy injector.

I have just drove home and the car is absolutly fine, do you think this could just be the glow plugs?

Is it worth changing them and then seeing how it goes?

Thinking of doing this tommorrow.

I am having exactly the same problem with my 2003 1.5 Dci 42k - Only difference is that mine cuts out when i pull up to a junction. Very intermittent though.

I cant afford to send it to a garage till pay day so any help on what this could be would be greatly appreciated.

*Edit* I have just been outside and started it and left it running for 10 mins, the car engine sounds good, no rough idling but i can see a black very sooty mark on the floor under the exaust.

in our german magane forum the main issue when the ignition light and stop light come up are the glowplugs....your best bet might be to check them in terms of if there is one of them having a different electrical resistance than the others...normally it is not necessary to change them all....

I checked all 4 with a volt meter. 1 was completley dead and the other only registered 3 volts. The other 2 were fine. I have replaced the faulty pair but the car is still refusing to start. Any ideas???

DCI engines start with faulty glow plugs unless it is very cold, so it is something else.

When I hit the start button it starts for about 2-3 seconds with a very rough and lumpy tick over and then stalls (wont let me rev it), sometimes the injection failure message comes up and other times it doesn'

dry_flood,

The symptom you described earlier as "mine cuts out when i pull up to a junction" is not consistent with glow plugs failure. Renault writes about your situation here:
https://meganedoksi.uw.hu/MEGANE_II/MR366MEGANE1.PDF
p.131, ALP 3 and 9, specifically 9 (detailed in p. 149).
