Growling noise.......

Postby mike123 » Fri Jun 27, 2008 4:51 pm

Sometimes when i just generally brake, either hard or just normally, I hear a growling sort of noise. Any ideas what it could be? Its a 06 facelift model.

is it immediately after starting and having driven the first 10 meters? if so, this is the initialisation of the ESP-System, which tests itself....and perfectly normal.

Do the discs look smooth and shiny? There should be no corrosion or grooves apart from a thin (2mm max) "lip" along the outer edge.

its not within just pulling away, it doesnt happen all the time. What would it mean if the discs are smooth and shiny? :?

Good, so the discs are OK (smooth surface). The next is, as terry_mccann suggested, the ABS/ESP system. Does the brake pedal vibrate when it happens? It is possible that the speed sensor on one wheel intermittently malfunctions or looses contact. The system "thinks" the wheel is locked and engages ABS/ESP. Have you ever seen any lights on the dash, btw? It is just my guess, I never had such a problem.

I think the problem lies with worn brake discs or pads, I was driving home from frodsham earlier and when I was near enough home, my brakes failed on me and I had to stop using my handbrake. When i pulled away again they were working fine. Im going to take my car in to get checked over tomorrow, I dont know wether to take it back to Renault or just to a standard garage like quick fit or something like that.... Don't know what to do :conf
