keycard battery low

Postby Phil and Liz » Mon Nov 24, 2014 7:10 am

i am getting the 'keycard battery low' message when driving recently, I know it needs changing but my question is, does this have to be a dealer job or will I be able to change it myself without having to have the key re-programmed at a dealer. Must be using power all the time as the older megane i have is still running the original battery in its key card.

Just bought batteries from bargain-bonanzaa - ordered Thursday, received on Saturday. You need 2032 Lithium 3V. Remove the emergency key, then lift the battery cover by the tab, which is normally hidden under the emergency key cover.

1 battery for 0.99

2 batteries for 1.89

Is it hands-free? Does the other card work?

other key card seems ok but the message iss till displayed when both keys are in the car, yes its hands free operation and have noticed that the hands free doesnt always work and the key card has to be pressed

It is unlikely that both cards have developed identical faults, unless you put identically dodgy batteries in both (which is not the case). So, the next thought is that the receiver in the car is not indicating a strong enough signal. There should be a couple of antennas inside the car; either one of them became disconnected or there is a fault with the receiver... I don't know, as I don't have any of these gadgets.
