Uh oh, forgot the card!

Postby NeilS » Thu Jul 16, 2015 8:58 pm

Hi All,
I managed to avert a minor disaster yesterday evening, drove up the street coming home from work and saw wifey on the doorstep. She said: 'don't switch the engine off, I need the car', so I parked up, got out, kissed wife, went indoors and off she went.

About a minute later, I realised that I still had the card in my pocket! And worse, poor wifey had left the other card at home!! :eek I dashed back outside, but by then she'd gone. Luckily she had parked up while waiting for her mate and picked up my call straight away. I told her she had to RTB to get the card, which she duly did and all was then ok.

So that was a bit of a close shave that hopefully will not be repeated, I guess I'll have to get into the habit of putting the card in the slot, where it should be (and remember to remove it when I get out of the car). What do you guys do? I'm sure this scenario must have happened to others?

Learning curve eh.

Regards,

Why didn't the car beep then? I tried this with mine when I bought it. I'm sure that if you pull the card out with the engine running, get out of car (or just open the door), shut the door again it will beep and say something like 'card not found' or 'card not detected'.

This was two years ago now so can't remember for sure :|

I've often wondered how far it would go without the card nearby, as I assumed it worked on some kind of wireless basis. I guess that once the ecu has satisfied that the card is nearby to open and start that it forgets about it after that then?

I found out that mine was handsfree by accident, as I went off in him one morning and When I arrived at my destination some 2 hours later, as I went to remove the key from the slot, I spotted it sitting there on the passenger seat under a few bits and pieces. I thought something was broken until I discovered some have this feature!

It's good that it won't let you turn off without the card in the slot. It says Card not in slot - press twice to stop engine.
