Hello
Just bought a 2004 megane scenic 1.9 dci 49k, has anyone else got noisy front suspension, when you turn lock to lock when stationary you can hear twanging noises from the front coil spring area. The car drives fine and im sure nothing is broken, have there been any modified parts to cure this?

Re: noisy front suspension
Yep, standard issue: your front upper strut bearings have had it, nearly every Megane suffers from this after 3 or 4 years....not too expensive to replace, I paid 200 Euros (150 pounds?) for it some weeks ago.
If you have someone else turn the wheel and you put your hand on the front spring you can even tell which one....but afaik it is best to replace both.....

Re: noisy front suspension
Check for damage to the front end and check that your car wasn't a Cat C/D insurance job...
If it has jad a front knock check that the sensor ring (upper one) is not bent... as that will make the same sound...
I use the following text CTC then your Reg to 83600 it will cost you £3
eg
CTC BV50PSE

naaah, I dont think he has to fear sth like this. the strut bearings are an absolut standard common issue on nearly all meganes from that era....we have had loads of them in our german forum.....

Re: noisy front suspension
Thanks for all your help everyone, the car is not bent luckily, it had an HPI check and came from a reputable dealer. I felt the spring while someone turned the steering wheel its definately the bearing on the top mount both sides unfortunately. Shame you cant buy just the bearing alone, maybe the rubber bush has been modified too as it comes as a kit. Got mine from a Renault dealer for £57 per side, part no. is 7701208891.

Hello
I fitted the bearings at the weekend and now all is quiet. I took one of the old ones apart and all I could see were tiny indentations in the bearing race. No idea how they would get there as the car had not been standing without the steering being moved for ages. Bit of a Renault con you cannot buy the bearings alone though as the rubber bush looks exactly the same. Just the squealing brakes to sort out now.
