megane ide knightmare
Hi people, wonder if anyone can help, my wife has a w reg megane convertible ide engine, basically a few weeks ago we broke down and rac came out and said we had a fuel pressure problem. After lots of reading on here and people experiancing similar syptoms we changed the fuel pressure reg. This has cured the problem when the car was hot e.g cutting out and stuff. We now have a new problem that's developed, when the car has been left overnite or quite a few hours its a pain to start, the engine managment light is on when ticking over, not when driving, the tickover is a bit up and down and it sounds like it has a very slight missfire, got hold of a diagnostic thing, and I have 2 fault codes p0136 and p0141 which is oxygen sensors, anyone able to help or offer advice, we have owned this car a long time but starting to get fed up with it. Many thanks in advance for any help offered

Try changing the catalytic converter if your emissions test is not ok.

Also worth checking is the thermostat. Remove, immerse in boiling water, observe operation. On many engines (no knowledge of yours) you can do this without losing much coolant - release pressure on cold engine then seal with cling film to stop air ingress.
Might be worth a reset wrt disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes. Following that go through the ECU relearning protocol (I've described this elsewhere).
Best to test simple things before blaming the cat, although it may well be at fault.

Thanks for the help will start with the simple things, the codes were deleted but then they must of come back as the engine managment light I'd back on, tried doing a search for ecu protocol but can't find the thread,

Thanks for the help so far, we left the car for 24 hours and it failed to start at all. I sprayed easy start in the air intake pipe thing, and it started instantly and ran fine, its making me think could it still b a fuel problem , and soon as it starts if u turn the engine off it starts again fine, to drive it is ok except
The tickover seems a bit low, it just seems to start playing up when starting if left longer than about 6 or 7 hours, the original problem of cutting out when hot has been fixed after I fitted a new fuel pressure reg, I'm wondering whether to now change the fuel pressure sensor,

Did you also replace the fuel filter and ensure the throttle butterfly plate is clean ?.
