Re: Banning internal combustion engines
Regarding the long-dead reptiles... It seems that natural gas and possibly oil, at least some of the resources, may be generated in the Earth's mantle somehow. There may (speculative at the moment) be much more fuel under the ground than we think. They call it abiotic hydrocarbons. These are a few s...

Re: Loss of Power
Regarding OBD scanners. In my now gone 2003 1.9dci there were two OBD protocols enabled at the same time: K-line and CAN bus. The OBD was actually working on the old-style K-line, while CAN was for the proprietary stuff. Check all the protocols for being supported. If the MIL light is on, then this ...

Re: Loss of Power
Turbos make whining noise when on the way out. If your turbo was whining and final seized, you would probably be asking a different question. I think that in your case the ECU has detected some problem and decided to limit the engine to 2000rpm. Read the OBD codes before doing anything. It can be th...

Re: Wheel Bearing and various front suspension bits
Thanks Garry for a remarkable story. Yes, these are the last generation of honest cars before fiddling with generally unnecessary gadgets and features began. Well done! Regarding pulling out the bearings. If things get stuck one can use an old arc welder to rapidly heat the part which is being remov...

df194 - "replace computer after impact".
It doesn't look like ESP/ASR... I don't have the manual at hand, please double check this. Is it possible that they spiked/hit the airbag computer during the repair?

Banning internal combustion engines
The global powers are planning to ban cars, as we know them now, by 2030. They will become electric and to a great extent self-driving gadgets whose road time will be rented from the same guys together with the battery packs. The same is with motorcycles, which will not require helmets any longer du...

Re: Add oil to diesel for better mpg
Yep, in the EU they are talking about banning the internal combustion engine by 2030... You used the word "reality" quite appropriately. The reality is what the customers want, as opposed to what they are told to want by the people who the said customers somehow think are better than them....

Re: Add oil to diesel for better mpg
Of course this is not done in the regular tests - only to get the factory bogus MPG figures. This is when the car is classed for a lower tax. A funny thing is that this kind of tax fraud actually reduces pollution - less money the monopoly of violence gets, less money they burn  . Alexb said ...

Re: Renault Megane 2006 2.0l 16v - Overheating
What does Mr. OBD say? Apart from the obvious cooling system issues (the pump, thermostat, airlocks, blockages) it could be something about the O2 sensor and injectors. Look at the fuel trim first. If the oil and coolant are clean, then the gasket is likely to be fine. Did the car seriously overheat...

Re: New to forum! Mods advice please
The most effective mod is new tyres. Conti Sport 5P are the best for street - an excellent cold grip. I usually put slightly wider tyres on the front in order to reduce understeer. The range of tyre sizes for your rims is easy to determine by using one of online calculators. Then adjust the pressure...

Yea, when the the electronic accelerator fails, thevrevs go go 3000rpm just to get you home... So, it can be the pedal.

Re: Spare Parts Query
This rubberised trim is not supposed be water tight. The failures happen because the internal plastic sheet is not placed correctly. It's a cheap, but moderately fiddly fix involving taking the door apart, a plastic sheet and some silicone. Give it about two hours on a sunny afternoon.

Re: Another first try
Hi and welcome! Have you tried driving one? After a naturally aspirated straight 6, this one may feel not particularly quick and excessively stable at first. Only later, with ESP off on a twisty road and while keeping it in boost it starts shining. I mean, the computer will tell you to accelerate to...

Is it vibrating while stationary?
If it is the case, then something has collapsed and the engine is pressed against the body. It could be an object stuck behind the engine, but what object?.. The engine mounts need to be checked. Was the belt changed recently?

PSU box under the bonnet, near the port side wheel arch. It is responsible for distributing the power around.
