I am about to buy one of these cars with the handbrake button stuck in. Silly question but do any other handbrake levers from other cars fit with a bit of modification? I don't care what it looks like!

Good guide, gave me enough info/confidence to tear the GF's car apart i bagged me a whole assembly for 35 quid which sounds like a right bargain to be honest. Im going to fix the old one and pass it on, might even get out of this up on pennies

Would like to give a big thank you to the OP, i have successfully replaced handbrake in around 1 hour.
No need to remove gear gaitor, there is enuf room to lift up the whole console, i rested it on passenger seat and it held it up out of the way for me, thanks buddy !!

Different length cables?
Hi!
I just removed the center console and noticed that the reason why my brake is not working is that the cables are different lengths and they part that holds the cables slipped off. HOw can I fix these lengths? Can I fix this? Thank you!!!!

Re: How to: Replace the 'throttle style' internal handbrake
Thank you very much my handbrake stopped working, would go the way up and still have no effect so his was perfect to see if the cables had snapped. To the lad posting before me mine is the same. One cable longer hen the other which I'm assuming is why one of my cables fell of the adjuster and thus no handbrake. I'm assuming the longer cable has stretched. Unless there's more adjusters hidden under the car. Either way my handbrake works to a degree so thanks

Re: How to: Replace the 'throttle style' internal handbrake
Anyone have any thoughts about the 2 different length cables? Is there an adjustment somewhere?
Thanks
