hazard lights

my 08 1.5 dci has its hazard flashers permanetly on, been intermitent i think till today, now it wont switch off unless battery is disconnected. I'm thinking corrosion in body control unit, any ideas ? are these coded to the car or will i be able to get one from ebay/ scrappies ?

Dont want to break her only 72k and 11 months mot, good tyres new front discs, timing belt 2 years ago

Hi,
it could be the actual hazard switch gone faulty.
Have you tried disconnecting it.

According to my book, fuse F7B in engine fuse box feeds hazard and central locking.
Pull it and see if it stops.

Ok connected battery back up this morning, flashers still going. Tried closing and locking flashers did normal one flash then went back to flashing. Tried holding four way flasher button in for 10 seconds still flashing. Managed to pull radio and heater control panel out, removed and disconnected 4 way switch still flasning. At this poin t tried starting car, battery dead and not enough in it to turn starter over, last night when i took batter charger off it did start.So gonnan have to buy a battery at least before i do anything else.

A good and fully charged battery is essential with modern day electronics, it may even be the trouble all along.

New battery bought and fitted this lunchtime, still the same, reconnected hazard switch no change tried locking and unlocking , nothing changes. Left it flashinghoping it might stop, 7 hours later still flsahing and one flat battery.Any suggestions for a cheapo code reader to see if there is any codes.

Try disconnecting the alarm siren unit which is behind one of the the side panels in the boot.

will try that in the morning, however the siren hasnt been going off. Did tonight when i locked the car but had the bonnet up and the battery disconnected but on charge. Ended up connecting the battery unlocking the car and disconnectingthe battery, putting it on charge

l wonder about damp or condensation in the body control unit, even a money spider across the connections, l think this is something you could check.
lf the bcu needed repairing, look on ebay for someone as local as you can, l had one done for a Clio once (£30).

From what l have found, Stuatec is probably right. Disconnect the alarm siren, never mind it don't go off, apparently it's water ingress in it.

Big thank you to stuartac, located and removed alarm siren, connected battery still flashing but switch was in on position and was able to switch off. All now working and am most gratefull. Maybe the administrators could lokk at posting that in the known issues ? Would have saved me a lot of time and stress, battery was a need to have anyway.
