Radio and centre console display not working

Hi - I have a Renault Megane 1.5 dCi 86 Tech Run 3dr and the radio has stopped working. At the same time the centre console display has stopped working so I have no clock, temperature etc.

I'm told by a mechanic that there's power going into the radio (I've still to verify this myself) but the unit doesn't turn on. I've pulled the radio out and disconnected the power thinking it might be the radio stopping the console display from working but doesn't appear to be the case. I haven't got a circuit diagram so don't know how the two items are wired and how they interact. For example, I take it the centre display should work regardless of whether the radio is connected or not?

Before buying a replacement radio I'd like to find out if there's anything else I can check to find out where the fault lies. I'm not even sure it's radio that's the problem!

Hopefully someone here can help?

Regards,
Gibbo.

Probably should add that I've checked the relevant fuse, which is o.k., and there's 12v on one side of the fuse. I also just checked the voltage into the radio which measures only 2.4v, both with, or without the fuse in (that's assuming the red and black wires are the +/- ve feed). Looks to me as if something is pulling the supply volts down somehow?

I am sure the center display is plugged in to the radio

I think so too since the display shows radio station/ CD track info.
