I'm new to the board so be gentle.
I've got a Megane 1.5dci 2007.
I've had my oil warning light on for a week or so, I had put one litre in to top it up but the light came on every now and again.
I put some oil in 5litres over the weekend as the light was on constantly on Friday, the dipstick showed virtually no oil in before I filled it.
Since I have filled it the exhaust has been smoking really badly, to the point where drivers are flashing at me to pull over.
I bought some Wynn's "reduced smoke" liquid yesterday but it doesn't seemed to have done anything.
Anyone know what the problem might be as I'm not flush with cash at present and ideally don't want a large repair bill

Jesus! 5 litres is more than the stated sump capacity. This means you have run the car for at least one day with virtually no oil in.
The engine is most likely toast.

Re: Megane - Smoking Exhaust
Could be it's toast, but could be OK. The most probable fault is turbine shaft bearing. If there was some oil in the engine at all times, the engine still could be saved, provided the journal bearings on the crankshaft are still there, together with the tappets in the head...

Re: Megane - Smoking Exhaust
Come off it! The smoke is likely (if a lot) owing to oil passing the piston rings. If the bearings are okay, a re-bore might sort it. That said, you would have to get the engine out of the car and strip everything down to single pieces. It isn't economical. An engine swap is the only sensible solution (based on the OP's testimony).
