Being new to this whole diesel thing should I be looking to have oil changes in between Renaults schedule and how much should this cost? Will I void the warranty if an independent does this?
Also does the 1.5 DCI 106 have this FAP filter?
Any other tips appreciated!
The car gets a good run up and down the N11 most days at speed so does not suffer to much in bumper to bumper trafiic.
Cheers.

If you use good quality oil (like 100% synthetic), then there's no need to service in between the Renault recommended intervals.
As to third party servicing, I wouldn't recommend that.... at least until the warranty is over. Remember that dealers are good as saying things like ".... it happened because unqualified persons put their hands on the car"..... you know what I mean?
About the FAP I don't know, but here in Malta, the Renault diesels on the Megs are all with FAP as standard.

In the UK the 1.5dCi 106 is not FAP fitted
You can use an independant garage as long as it's VAT registered and genuine Renault parts are used. Your warranty will not be affected.
Your service interval should be 12000 miles or 1 year which ever is sooner and YOU MUST USE 5W40 fully synthetic oil that meets the ACEA B3/B4 standard.
The oil is the lifeblood of the engine, turbo chargers cost a lot of money to replace. A change at 6000 miles won't hurt it. (I change my oil every 6000 miles)
National Tyres offer an oil change at very reasonable prices (I would supply a genuine Renault Filter though)

So for once in Malta we have better equipped vehicles?? WOW
The 1.5dCI 106 in Malta is standard with the FAP. I also know that the Meg 2 Expression Sedan 1.5dCI 106, 6 speed, metallic, alloys, climate etc is around £15,500...... don't know how much it costs there....

Re: 1.5 DCI oil change intervals
Oil Filter Spec.
I recently did an oil and filter change on a Megane II 1.5dci 106ps and found that the Renault dealers had fitted the "wrong" oil filter at the last service. I looked at the FRAM website which specifies a PH5796 filter. The Renault dealer had fitted a 82 00 768 927 filter which equates to FRAM's PH9739 as specified for a Megane III 1.5dci.
Can anyone shed any light on this ? Have Renault recently decided that the larger PH9739 should be used on the 1.5dci or has there been a change in the engine lubrication system between the mkII and mkIII meganes (and clios) ?
Incidentally, I used the FRAM website because I suspect they are the manufacturer of the Renault-branded filters.

Re: 1.5 DCI oil change intervals
Using FRAM filters will not invalidate warranty they meet or excede OEM and are recognised by Renault
As to the size/model of filter i have no idea

FRAM/Purflux (by Sogefi) is actually the same company, and they are the only supplier for Renault. The filter for Megane III should not be used on Megane II 1.5 dCi K9K 732, as the one on Meg III 1.5 dCi has FAP, and the one on Meg II hasn't. The filters also have different pressure valves and different filtrating materials, because different oil specifications are used in these engines.
