I have a megane 1.5 diesel on a 54 plate and always get over 60 mpg from the whole tankful. My best is 78 mpg whilst on the motorway from Blackpool to Warwick, then it dropped to 72 mpg taking the smaller roads to my house and by the end of the tankful I was down to about 67 mpg being extra careful. I rarely go above the speed limit and tend to cruise at 58mph on roads and 68mph on the motorway. I am light footed and keep my eye on the gauge to keep me this way.

Unfortunately what I save on fuel I make up with engine problems.... currently having egr valve problems and I smoke like a trooper just driving along at 2200 rev's. Cars stop me to tell me my engine is about to blow up! When I hit the accelerator hard, a BIG BLACK CLOUD is left behind. I don't have any oil burning problems, just underworking the diesel engine which is apparently very bad for it...

I almost fail each MOT on exhaust fumes, learnt to get around this by going to the garage in 2nd gear at 5000 rev's; this cleans all the pipes on the way. I've added loads of petrol additives, all to no effect.

I was curious about what actual MPG I was getting in my 53 Megane 1.5dci 80 so reset the trip meter and managed to do 1065 miles for 75 litres of diesel. Not bad I thought to say these were mostly short journeys no motorway miles.

Best ever from Sarajevo to Makarska (lovely seaside in Croatia btw) and back: 68.89 mpg (4.1 l/100Km). Me, wife and luggage, 195/65 15'' summer tyres, aircon on, drove like a retired lady most of the way. :D

That's a great idea, I can't seem to find anyone else with a 2.0 VVT to compare mine to.
Best figure I've seen ONCE is 41 MPG. Normally sits around 31 MPG. But i love it!!!

This weekend recorded my best ever MPG, Im so happy :D

Scarborough to Lincoln and back, about 190 miles. A mixture of A and B roads, loads of narrow country lanes, a tiny run on the M180 and stop start traffic on the Lincoln ring road, which i think has brought the final average down a bit :banghead

Got home and the trip says 52.3 mpg. Whoooo never seen it in the 50's 8)

But bugger me it was hard work, really concentrating on the revs and braking and to be honest not worth it, i like to have a little fun when im driving so i think im going to be back to my old self from now on and give it a bit of stick so back to 45mpg come next weekend i think, thats where shes normally at :)

On my 1.5dci Megane hatch I managed 4.8l / 100km which is 58.85 mpg. Average speed was 99kmph which is basically 60mph. Roadworks for the 2010 worldcup are a pain.

Would removing my catalytic converter impact my fuel consumption? (It's not illeagal here in SA) Also, all these tuning boxes and remaps, do they negatively affect fuel consumption?

Cheers
Mike

had my 1.4 Extreme a little over 6 weeks now, and am averaging between 35-39 mpg. before i got the car was hoping for a little more, but am happy enough with it, driving mosty on dual-carriageways, i dunno wat sorta roads they are, A roads i guess, not motorways, and the odd 0mph average speed bullsh1t.

1.9 DCi is usually around 46mpg while driving around town but on motorways, if I stick to 60mph it rises to 60mpg.

My 1.9 dci 130 sport torer is returning between 36 and 40 mpg thats driving the car very lightly 80% of the time with about 60% of my driving on motorways. Although i have had it re-mapped to about 165 bhp (well thats what they told me). Soo mpg not great but i can get from standstill to 60 in 7.5 seconds!! Not bad in my eyes for a 1.9 diesel estste considering its quicker than my wifes mondeo st24 (2.5 v6). :)
