Beeping when locking/unlocking
I have a 2006 Megane Maxim 1.6 VVT which beeps once when I unlock it and twice when I lock it. It's done it ever since I bought it (which admittedly was about 2 weeks ago) but I find it quite irritating and nobody else's Megane that I know of does this. Is there a way of making it stop? Thanks.

Re: Beeping when locking/unlocking
i think it's a dealer fix. it's an uncommon thing to happen and there's no fix listed

Re: Beeping when locking/unlocking
I have the same 'problem'
I believe it’s something to do with some UK law or confinement that cars shouldn’t have an audible locking/unlocking system.
However in Europe it is quite common for cars to have an audible locking system.
In UK spec Meganes this feature has been disable.
It is my experience that some electrical faults can cause this to be 'reset' and so the disabled function is enabled. As a result your car beeps.
I however much prefer this sounding as I can walk away and be confident that my car is locked. I have had a couple of comments when locking my car beside other Megane owners... I tell them it’s the elite model!

Re: Beeping when locking/unlocking
Mine beeps if a) there is an indicator bulb blown, or, b) when the bonnet sensor is not fully down. My suggestion is that you inspect both for faults - 5 minute job for free...

Re: Beeping when locking/unlocking
We had a rental megane in the south of france last year and it beeped in the same way. once unlock. once lock and twice on dead lock.
Is it not more of a continuous beep if there bonnet ect are open.

Is There and easy way to enable it again?
Thanks.

Re: Beeping when locking/unlocking
All uk meganes have this disabled.
The easy way is have it hooked up via the port and have it configured in the ECU.
A simple thing to do if you have access to one.

Re: Beeping when locking/unlocking
Oh right... Maybe mine does it because it's a special edition then? Maybe it was imported or something.

Re: Beeping when locking/unlocking
I dont think the megane came in a 'special edition' other than the R26R and on its diet the alarm wasnt included.

dunno if you want to call it special but it was in a limited run like the oasis and quiksilver models etc... essentially a base model car with extras since not many people bought expression models.

Oasis: panoramic glass sunroof (you get a normal sunroof on the 3-door models) and the Renault Hands-Free system, electrically folding heated mirrors and an Thatcham Category 1 alarm system.
Maxim: not sure but i think it was alloys and climate control.

Bigger alloys, mp3 radio, an alarm and I think that's it. It's based on the Dynamique which I don't think is the base model is it?

Re: Beeping when locking/unlocking
So I got a new battery because it died in the winter, and it's stopped beeping. As pleased as I am that it is, I'm a bit suspicious... it beeped once when I locked it for the first time after the new battery was fitted, and then never again. Strange?
