Megane dci 1.5 2005
Car was used Sunday night 9pm and was totally normal.
Monday afternoon around 12pm tried to start and all I got was "service" and steering locked/unlocked messages.
Also a clicking noise but think that's normal relays working?
That's all I get no turn over nothing.
Tried the following:-
1.steering fuses 5amp and 15amp.
2.oil level ok
3.plenty of coolant.
4.Battery disconnected and reconnected.
5.new battery in key car.
Tried to have alook at Cambelt but 9pm isn't the best time so left it.
Been very cold here like most of uk around -4
Only other thing I can add is the car took a long time to start Sunday but I think was because of the cold.
Hope someone can offer advice.
Cheers in advance.

Re: Megane 1.5 dci won't start
are your lights dim?
it may be your battery if your hearing a loud clicking, get a booster pack on it or borrow another battery just to find out.

Further checked engine and passenger fuses.
Had steering lock solenoid out (not sure what to look for) so seemed ok. Nothing missing
Wiring ok.
Someone must of had this ? And maybe rectified it?

I hav got the same problem I was told it needed a new fuse box by renault had 1 fitted last night an its ex catly the same still sayin steering locked someone help please
Re: Megane 1.5 dci won't start
Just because the battery reads 12.67 or whatever volts, does not mean it is fine. A dead battery taken off a charger will read 14V for a time. You need a CCA tester to discover whether or not there is a problem with it.
Start checking fuses and wiring connectors for corrosion etc would be my advice.

Re: Megane 1.5 dci won't start
Sounds very much like your steering lock has failed. The lock has an internal switch that turns the ignition on when the lock disengages after the drivers requests 'igniton on' or 'start'. When the lock fails, the ignition will not turn on nor will the car start and you get a steering lock message displayed on your instrument. I've changed loads of them after this (your) fault occurs.
