Just wanting opinions on this tyre,
Basically my spring snapped and dropped down the strut meaning it pressed against the tyre making this nice channel all the way round.
it hasn't reached any webbing or canvas or whatever you call it and I would say it has taken approximately 2mm away.

obviously its not designed to be worn here so is the tyre a write off?
does this tyre need to be binned?

Personally, I would just replace it, better be safe than sorry. There's most probably no structural damage but then again, that strut looks like it pressed against the tyre pretty hard so might have deformed the plies.
Here's a tyre cross section so you know what I'm talking about https://www.emt-india.net/process/tyre/img/04.gif

I'd be replacing it, shame as it's not a cheapo I see but, better safe than sorry.
Looking here https://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/le ... tyres.html there's no specific mention of the side walls but there's a lot of talk of 'fit for purpose' and 'not liable to cause danger', you only need a zero tolerance traffic officer and you'll end up with a £60 fine, some points and who knows what else.
