I have a 2006 Megane Sports Tourer.
But I keep getting locked out of the load compartment by the tailgate opening mechanism.
Sometimes the tailgate will open using the switch by the number plate light, but at other times nothing I do seems to make any difference.
It's very annoying as there doesn't seem to be anyway to manually open the tailgate.
The tailgate electrics are controversial at best, and frankly rubbish.
So is there anyway to manually open the tailgate as it's driving me up the wall!
Thank you
Brian

Re: Is there any way to open tailgate sports hatch
Thanks very much that's, a really helpful reply, for your information when this happened previously I did exactly what you suggest for a considerable time without finding the solution, so instead of being so bored to answer a question, why do you even bother?
I belong to other forums dealing with other makes and in fact I am a model technical adviser for the Lancia Motor Club, and it's the first time I've ever received such an unhelpful response from any forum.
Owners having problems go to forums hoping to receive help.
,Instead of being answered by someone so bored to answer a REQUEST FOR HELP.
Why don't you start a index of all the relevant answers to such a question, to save others who don't have your knowledge, having to plow through dozens or even hundreds of answers.
And save you from your obvious boredom and superior attitude.
Alternatively you could answer the question.?

Re: Is there any way to open tailgate sports hatch
After receiving a very unhelpful answer, a friend found an answer online.
I spent several weeks having to crawl in through the back door then insert a flat screwdriver in a small aperture in the lock body, this is covered by a clear piece of tape, a white lever can be seen, insert the screwdriver to the right of the lever then push it to the left,, this will then release the tailgate.
After checking various things I found with the tailgate up and replicated the locking motion by using the shaft of a screwdriver, the lock operated and could be released with the remote, but if I closed the tailgate it wouldn't unlock.
This was traced by an electrician to a broken wire that made contact with the tailgate up, but didn't make contact when the tailgate was down.
This must be the worst car I can remember in my 60+ years of driving for rubbish electrics, pity it isn't as reliable as the rest of the car.
Finally why not a plain simple lock and key instead of clever electrics that fail.
To the bored person who answered very unhelpfully.
Now that wasn't so hard to do.

There is a manual release in the locking
Mechanism there is a short reference to
it in the Tailgate section of the
Drivers handbook if you have one. Here is
A link to a YouTube video on a scenic, it
Will be the same lock.
