Hi I am having slight trouble with front left ABS sensor holder which is totally rusted out..I have just bought a replacement which comes with new bearings....my question is can I fit the new ABS sensor holder with out taking the bearings out of the hub...I am hoping to remove the hub and get to the sensor holder that way....is this possible...thanks in advance

My understanding is the ring is positioned before the bearing is pressed. So no. I have a spare steering knuckle I can double check for you tomorrow but I'm pretty certain its bearing out first.

DougM unfortunately you are correct the bearing have to be removed to insert the new sensor holder....I am toying with the idea are grinding down the outside edge of new ring and using something like araldite to hold it in place. If I am careful I might be able to jam it in..
That's for another day...I appreciate your advice

Let us know how you get on. My understanding was the bearing had a built in magnetic reluctor ring and the sensor ring had to be up against it to work. If it does work it would certainly be better than having to press the bearing out.

Hi latest update I spoke to a qualified mechanic today and I explained what I was planning to do with the Sensor Holding ring. he said while I might be able to get it to fit tightly there would be to much of a gap between the sensor and the magnetic pickup due to me not being able to remove the old ring fully. so back to plan C...remove the bearing replace ring and new bearing...Why did not Renault think of this before they made the ring to be placed in such a inaccessible place...If they put it after bearing fitted and press the new ring into place once the driveshaft has been removed they must have known there would be rust problems with it....
I thank you for your help in sorting this and other problems
