none illumination of speedo/ rev counter

Postby peter thompson » Fri Aug 17, 2007 9:20 pm

Hi gang as anyone had there speedo and rev counter not light up when the auto lights come on, everything else lights up as it should. It as done it 6 times in 15 months, each time i have to pull up turn the engine off open the door and start it again and all is fine. I have also put my hand on the drivers door handle and it unlocked but when I pull the handle it want open. It as done this about 7-8 times, plus I have squeaky brakes, this problem was meant to be sorted out on 2006 models.Anyone else had these problems on the 2006 models.

My instrument lights failed to light once, but have not repeted it since, my brakes give a little noise sometimes when reversing, can't help with the door handles cause I don't have hands free.

Hi gang got car back from garage, They said Renault knows about the problems of both the none illumination of the speedo + rec counter and the squeaky brakes even though mine or the modified type. But at the moment they have no solution to fix them yet. Will be told when they have.

This happened to me the other day, had to turn that ignition on and off to rectify.

Glad I found this. I'm had the same issue a couple of times with our 2006 '56 plate Tourer. Never had the problem with our 2005 '05 Sport Hatch, though.
Is it related to the Auto light function, then?

Hi there,

I have had the same problem with my 06 Megane. I find that after long journeys it is happening. if I drive for a coulpe of hours, stop for petrol and then restart the speedo and dash console doesnt light up.

Ive pointed it out 4 times to my garage but they cant find the fault and cant fix it !

I have to restart 3 or 4 times before it comes back on.

I currently have the issue that the rev counter and trip computer display keeps going on and off during every journey. But the speedo always remains on.

I was thinking there must be a dodgy bulb or something? Is this a job for the normal person to replace the bulb, or will I have to take the puppy in to a garage?

Hi New here - but found you due to my frustrations with my 56 Plate Megane!

I had exactly the same problems - you would start the car and your headlights come on, then get on the road, look down and you can't see the speedo. Initially I spoke to guy who was in "sales" at my dealer - I told him that this was dangerous and he says that if I were an experienced driver I would know how fast I was going! Having given that particular idiot a piece of my mind I finally spoke to the service dept, I too was told that Renault Knew of the problem but not the fix. Well I did my nut and called Renault - after about a month I was told that I needed to take the car in and they would fit a new dash display - they did this and all is OK.

I think that they are keeping the fix quiet so that they don't have to pay out for such an expensive fix - but dig your heels in.

If you have any more problems PM me and I will give you more info etc - Don't take no for an answer!

Cheers!

I love the experienced driver quote, should of put his lights out the fool, just who do these idiots think they are talking to, the fact that some come out with this rubbish makes you wonder just how many people out there are driving in sub standard land because of them,
good to hear you got it sorted but surely you and all of us should not have to do our nut to get it right.....

Also have this (albeit rarely) on our 2006 Sports Tourer, re-starting solves it. The car is going in for some warranty work, I'll mention it and see how I get on...

Hi folks!
We've had exactly this problem two or three times in the last couple of months on the Wife's Clio lll Dynamique. Auto-lights and everything else work fine except for speedo/tacho but I found that if I just flick the light switch on-off, instruments light up! So far my 57-plate Megane seems OK but would be interested to hear of a proper fix.
