BATTERY LOW WARNING LIGHT

Postby fox » Fri Sep 19, 2008 8:30 pm

Recently had a battery waring light and STOP light come up on dash.

Called out recovery, tested battery and alternator, both working fine. Said it could be a alternator intermittent fault. (where the alternator stops working eg. when it gets to hot)

Took into local Renault dealer. They tested it using fault diagnosis software which picked up two faulty glow plugs. Battery and alternator working fine.

Following day car would not start. battery completely dead, even doors would not open.

Took back to dealer who replaced the alternator under warrentee as an intermittent fault.

Wanted £100 to replace a dead battery caused by them not picking up the fault.

I brought a VARTA high performance 5 year guaranteed battery for £50 and decided to replace myself.

Opened bonnet, took out old battery, closed bonnet.

Tried to reopen bonnet but couldn't as leaver was not working.

Turns out bonnet cable has detached from the catch and only way to open is to strip the whole front of car (Bumpers, radiators, etc)

Absolute nightmare
