I think it would be ideal for the megane, even though I have doubts about the actual durability of a smaller engine with more power.

It is coming to Megane III Phase 2, and I don't have any doubts about durability. This engine blok is a real deal, and I suppose that all the moving parts will be given special treatment for wear (a "silent" timing chain, mirror finished crankshaft and camshaft journals, nano finished cam, offset cylinder placement), the engine being a low friction one. I suppose it is one of the 'under stress' manufacture type of engines, meaning while the block is being bored, a torque plate puts the block under stress. The block becomes temporarily distorted until the head is torqued onto it, at which point the block is pulled into the correct shape. This method is unlike traditional engine assembly, in which the head being bolted to the block can twist it out of shape, decreasing engine efficiency and in the worst case scenario, increasing oil consumption. It is destined for Renault, Nissan and Mercedes (Mercedes tested it too, already), so no doubts about durability. Will be made in Cleon, France, unlike some other engines that come from Pitesty, Romania.
Quote from press release:
New extreme tests were designed to ensure the long term durability of the new engine. In total, some 30 units of the Energy dCi 130 engine were put through a combined 15,000 hours of bench testing and 400,000km of test driving. Off the production line, each engine will be put through a 10-minute on-site validation test.

Another good thing about it is the compression ratio of only 15.4:1, just like the good old champion K9K 732/734/764. 8-)

Nice, if I win the lottery opr find a written off one with the engine intact I might swap mine for it. Just dont like the stop start stuff.

It wouldn't fit into your car. :no The gearbox and engine configuration is totally different from 1.5 dCi.
