hi there,
i have a 05 1.5dci megane 2 with 60k on the clock. can anyone tell when i should be changing the timing belt.

i have the same model and engine but 57 plate and 50,000 and im thinking about getting mine done fairly soon.. thinking of attempting it myself, imagine it'll turn out a epec fail!lol

5 years or 72k is the interval I think.

Not a job I'd fancy tackling as you have to get locking pins to lock the timing as well as the issue of access, etc. If you do it wrong it's an engine wrecker. Larger balls than mine required.

Buy quality kit online and hand your keycard to a man that can! (Not a man wearing a Renault overall obviously!!! but someone you trust).

6 years, 100.000 miles (160.000 km) for 1.5 dCi.

I changed the belts, the water pump and the tensioner on my old 1.9. I didn't use any locking pins, there was no need. I can't imagine that the 1.5 is any different.

That said, I was quoted £183 for the job by a firm in Nottingham - for that money it's worth the piece of mind!

Sorry it's a link not an image but I can't for the life of me get the picture to post the right size :banghead , any help would be appreciated with that for future reference.
Anyway, here's page 9 of my service book showing timing belt interval at 5years or 72,000 miles.

Amazing how Renault can make something so straight forward so confusing!

Mine's a 1.5dci 86 bhp UK registered Nov 2005.

What's your details? (I see it's a 106 but why would that make a difference? 6th gear equals less stress?)

Any hooo I don't suppose it make much difference, by the time it snaps you're out of warranty, either way.

I think it is different from one country to another. I've seen service booklets with 10.000 km service interval for oil and oil filter. :nut
I cover this mileage in 2 months sometimes, so I should go and service my car every 2 months???
Another thing is that long service intervals influence the buyer's decision. That's why they advertise long service intervals, 30.000 km for example. And advertising policy changes often, so you end up with the same engine in cars produced in the same year but the service booklet says one thing for you and another for me. If you ask me, that's first class French bullsh*t. When there isn't a lot of stress on the engine, i.e. if you drive a lot of motorway kilometres, timing belt can easily last 200.000 km. That's only my opinion though.

it is different for each country. the uk apparently extended some service items to get a better foothold in the car leasing/hire business.
